South Africa Trip October/November 2013 part 10

In the morning, the kudu were still there. We were packed and out at 4:30 for the drive south to our last night in Kruger. It was raining off and on, so a quiet morning. 6 hyena were the only good sightingA Burchell’s coucal called the rain near TshokwaneNearing Skukuza, the general game reappeared – giraffe, wildebeest, impala, zebra. Some bushbuck posed near the riverAnd a crocodile and hadeda ibis shared a sandbarAfter lunch at Lower Sabie we headed to Biyamiti, with a buffalo carcass along the roadWe like chalet #3although vervet monkeys stole some rusksThere were also bushbuck and francolin in campHeading back out, we found a rhino in the riverbeda drongo pestering a raptora beautiful kudurhino at the weirand a wattled ploverfollowed by 3 more rhinoOur last morning in Kruger, we did an early loop, seeing several more rhinoWahlberg’s eaglesyoung crocodilefishmonkeyslilac breasted rollerand a posing dwarf mongoosewho is the last clip in the movieKNP Video

before returning for lunch and packing. We headed up the S126, with elephantand liliesand redbill hornbillI had never been to Transport Dam, so we took a detour there – plenty of general game, and some flowersWe headed back east, but then someone told us of some lions 1-2 km further west so we turned around and found 3 femalesThen it was S65 and the Kruger gate, with one sighting of European bee eater (true last sighting was impala and zebra)
